Don’t Waste Your Life

August 7th, 2008

“The greatest cause in the world is joyfully rescuing people from hell, meeting their earthly needs, making them glad in God, and doing it with a kind, serious pleasure that makes Christ look like the Treasure He is.”
-John Piper, Don’t Waste Your Life

I’m sure the title of this post will have absolutely nothing to do with the content.

So currently:

  • I am pretty tired
  • I’m looking forward to my brothers wedding on Friday
  • I need to finish writing my best man’s speech
  • I need to finish painting the baby’s room
  • I actually need to make a list of things I need to do

Last night Natalie and I prayed together about our future son or daughter. I don’t think it’s really hit me yet, even though I’ve seen scans and felt the baby move. It’s just like something that’s happening to my wife.

We’re having a 4D scan Saturday, so that will be amazing to see our baby in that much detail.

It’s such a weighty thing to become a parent. I feel that, but not enough. I want to be a great father, which is a humbling thought, because there’s so many ways to screw it up! I’m thankful that there are so many other couples in church at the moment who are going to become parents this year. It feels like God is really doing something through us all being in the same situation.

So that’s good.

OK, Dave, I have blogged. I need to blog more. So, what should I blog about?

“If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and earnestly to hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I submit that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is not part of the Christian faith.

Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak.

We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

Baby Timbrell’s heart beat is good and strong.

Currently

June 12th, 2008

I have a number of things on my mind:

  • Becoming a daddy in October, and how to be a good husband now, and then
  • Two Stag days to sort out
  • Making time to read my bible
  • Writing two best man speeches
  • The lack of house work I’ve been doing
  • Buying a TomTom, which one should I get?
  • How to get an iPhone without waiting for my Orange contract to expire
  • Updating various websites
  • How to trick myself into eating more fruit

I am tired.

We are His

April 6th, 2008

We are at Jesus’ disposal. If he wants you to be sick in bed, if he wants you to proclaim His work in the street, if he wants you to clean the toilets all day, that’s all right, everything is all right. We must say, “I belong to you. You can do whatever you like.” And this is our strength, and this is the joy of the Lord. – Bl. Teresa of Calcutta

Anger.

I just typed out a really long blog post, and WordPress lost the whole thing. It was probably my fault, but still, I want to smack a hole in my computer right now.

Maybe this is why I haven’t been blogging so much! Damn you technology!

Until I can be bothered to write something else in this wretched text box, go and read my posts at the Oakham VOX blog

Understatement

I totally need to blog more often. This is beyond a joke.

This is Kev. He cost five quid, although I think he’s worth at least eight.

Good PHPWM meeting last night! Darren Beale did a great talk on the Symfony PHP framework which I had read about before, but will certainly be checking out now.
